Portuguese Liga Sagres, Matchday 10 Previews

Previews

Vitoria Guimarães Vs. Braga

This week all the attention will be on the game between Vitoria Guimarães and Braga. The leader of the Liga will travel to Guimarães for the 3 points of the win, but Vitoria is far from an easy opponent!

After their last win against Benfica (2-0) Braga got the 3 points needed to get on the first place of Liga Sagres table and leave Benfica 3 points behind. What they want is to continue collectig 3-pointers in order to keep the leading position of the league. Ney is fit enough to make his debut this Saturday for Braga. With João Pereira away due to suspension, and Filipe Oliveira injured, there is no alternative left to the manager Domingos Paciência for the right wing of his team’s defense.

Vitoria de Guimarães are through a very a bad period and the victory is needed to release some of the pressure. Striker Douglas has not been following the team’s normal training schedule, but he will be fit enough for the game. The star of the team, Nuno Assis, believes that Vitoria Guimarães have the guts to beat any team. The game against Braga will say if he is right or not.

These kind of games (derbies) are always unpredictable but Braga is unbeatable until now, and they only have one draw.

I go for the draw.

Leiria Vs. Académica

Pedro Cervantes can integrate the eleven that will face Académica. In yesterday workout, his squad showed to be highly motivated and committed to maintain their good shape. Moreover, the team, which is now managed by Lito Vidigal, have achieved two consecutive wins in the Liga Sagres (Naval, 2-0 and Pacos Ferreira, 1-0). Motivated by this good performance, the team wants to come back to collect the three points. In the event of defeating Academica, Uniao de Leiria may even reach a position that will allow them to start dreaming of play in a European competition next season.

The first win of Académica was achieved last week against Vitoria de Guimarães. Paulo Sergio, player of Academica, was warned for the good attack of their opponent and said that the team is getting ready for them. With the new manager (Vilas Boas – ex Mourinho assistant coach) a lot of things have changed in Coimbra, and the team is more confident and much more strengthened.

Home win.
